News Summary: Expansion and Significant Changes in the NT DAMA II

The Northern Territory Work Migration Scheme (NT DAMA II) has undergone a one-year extension, extending its validity until 13 December 2024. In addition, key changes have been implemented to simplify and improve participation of employers in the program:

 1. Inclusion of New Occupations:

    – 11 additional occupations have been added, increasing the total of eligible occupations to 135, thus expanding opportunities for foreign professionals.

 2. TSMIT Income Threshold Reduction:

    – The income threshold for Temporary Skilled Migration (TSMIT) has been adjusted to $55,000 in certain selected occupations, making it easier for qualified employees to access the program.

 3. Simplified Pathway to Permanent Residence:

    – A simpler and more agile route to permanent residence has been established.

    – Foreign workers can now be nominated for the subclass 186 permanent visa after two years of full-time employment in eligible occupations in the NT.

 4. Electronic Application Process:

    – All backup requests and subsequent backups must be submitted online, streamlining the process and improving administrative efficiency.

Interested applicants are encouraged to check the official website for detailed information regarding the eligibility criteria and application procedure. These changes seek to make the NT DAMA more accessible and attractive to both employers and foreign workers.
